Private Lessons & Group Classes Available

If you are new to swing dancing this monthly series is for you!  Swing is a fun social dance that is an instantly accessible way to enjoy social dancing to swing jazz, blues and rock and roll music. Swing is a form of social partner dance that evolved from Lindy Hop in the late 1940’s and early 50’s, and is based in six-count patterns that are simplified from of Lindy Hop patterns.  In practice on the social dance floor, the six count steps of the  Swing can be mixed with the eight count steps of Lindy Hop and Charleston. During this series some Lindy figures might be incorporated depending on the pace of the group. This basics in this class can then be applied in Intermediate Swing/Lindy Hop. No experience or partner is necessary.  Swing is a 4 week series that runs each Tuesday from 7pm-7:45PM.  Classes are progressive, therefore every week within that month, we build upon the moves taught in the previous class.

The four week series is $56 for 45 minute classes and $68 for 1 hour classes in advance online or on the first night of class. Please Note: There are no make ups for missed classes. Lindy Hop

Lindy Hop is the original American swing dance, also known as Jitterbug, which was created in the late 30’s and 40’s to really swing to the jazz music of the times which was being played in the dance halls in Harlem.  Danced to a wide range of tempos, there is a strong pulse that drives the movement of the dance, and the music is traditionally big band swing from the Golden Era of Jazz. Lindy Hop is danced to an eight count rhythm and is generally characterized as a fairly lively and happy dance.  Learn the basics of Lindy Hop including the Swing Out, Texas Tommy, Outside and Inside Turns, Lindy Circle, Charleston, and various follower and some leader turns.   The goal of the class will be to have you social dancing to some of North Americas most beautiful jazz music. It  is recommended that each dancer complete at least one month long series of Beginning Swing/Linday before enrolling in Intermediate Swing/Lindy Hop(Check with instructor before enrolling).  During this class 8 count Lindy patterns will be introduced along with some 6 count swing figures from BeginningSwing/Lindy. This class will be offered on Tuesday from 7:45pm-8:45pm.

 West Coast Swing

West Coast Swing is a partner dance with roots in Lindy Hop. It is characterized by a distinctive elastic look that results from its basic extension-compression technique of partner connection, and is danced primarily in a slotted area on the dance floor. The dance allows for both partners to improvise steps while dancing together, putting West Coast Swing in a short list of dances that put a premium on improvisation.Typically the follower walks into new patterns traveling forward on counts "1" and "2" of each basic pattern, rather than rocking back. Traditional figures include 6-count and 8-count patterns such as the Sugar Push; Left Side Pass; Right Side Pass; Tuck Turn; and Whip. Virtually all other moves in WCS are variations of these basic patterns.
